Work... what is it good for?

A trip to North Ronaldsay with work gave the opportunity for some wildlife watching whilst waiting for the plane back to Kirkwall. On this northernmost of the Orkney islands, it is always time well spent.

The reed bed at Bride's Loch was mesmerising

One of the many Twite from a large flock which were feeding in the bird crop at the Bird Observatory

Admittedly, this one wasn't feeding, it was having a preen

The bird crop itself was less colourful than a few months ago, but this Crimson Clover was still strikingly vibrant

The Harbour Seals were as inquisitive as ever

  1. It has its moments, Mark. Today was less pleasant. Horizontal driving rain from the west meant that an office day was preferable to being up a ladder. How do you cope with inclement weather?

    1. I've been a Window Cleaner for nearly thirty three years now and in all that time I've only ever gone home once. But believe me Lincolnshire weather and Scottish Island weather are different ends of the spectrum.

    2. I think my only visit to Lincolnshire was for a military training course, one Winter back in the early 1980s, based at Kirton in Lindsey. Now you mention it, it was quite calm... the weather, not our stress levels!
